Calling Retired Law Enforcement Officers, Team Adam Needs You!

09-01-2022

Here at the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), we know that time is of the essence when it comes to a missing child investigation. That’s exactly why we created Team Adam, a nationwide group of retired law enforcement professionals ready to jump into action, assist on scene and stand as NCMEC representatives across the country.

Team Adam was formed in 2003 as a free resource provided to law enforcement agencies across the country. Named after Adam Walsh, the abducted and murdered son of co-founders John and Revé Walsh, Team Adam provides rapid, on-site assistance to law enforcement (LE) agencies and families in critical cases of missing children.

Are you a retired LE officer looking to make a difference?

NCMEC’s Team Adam is currently seeking qualified candidates to apply for positions as consultants. Qualified Applicants must be retired Local, State or Federal law enforcement with a background in criminal investigations (violent crimes, crimes against children, missing persons).

Team Adam consultants have years of experience at federal, state and local levels. Consultants deploy to sites where critical cases are actively unfolding to provide on-the-ground technical assistance and connect law enforcement to a national network of resources.

Working in full cooperation with the LE agencies on the case, the program’s unique access to NCMEC resources and years of law enforcement experience provide departments with the added tools to address complex, media-intensive cases.

When on a case, consultants advise, assist and offer a wide variety of NCMEC resources to law enforcement agencies across the country. Team Adam consultants are also prepared to provide additional assistance to investigators and the victim’s family as appropriate.

In 2021, Team Adam deployed to the scene of 34 cases of critically missing children and did virtual consultations on an additional 52 critical cases. Since their inception, Team Adam has deployed more than 1,200 times.

Not only does Team Adam deploy during active investigations, consultants also provide technical assistance to LE agencies regarding long-term missing children investigations.

For long-term cases, consultants can assist with the following things and more:

  • Case Reviews
  • Facilitation of the collection of biometrics
  • Search and assistance including landfill search assessment
  • Vetting of leads and recommendation of investigative strategies
  • Age progression images, facial reconstructions, and forensic testing

Currently, Team Adam is seeking applicants in the following states:

Alabama, Alaska, California, Idaho, Louisiana, Maine, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, upstate New York, North Dakota, central and western Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Texas, Tennessee, Washington State, and Vermont.

Applications will be accepted through Dec. 15, 2022, in preparation for new consultant training hosted in Alexandria, Virginia, in May 2023.
