During the unprecedented COVID 19 pandemic, the Board of Directors for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children hereby resolves the following:
At a time when the vast majority of Americans must shelter in place, it is the brave women and men of law enforcement who are amongst those that must knowingly put themselves in harm’s way to protect the vulnerable, ensure public safety, and deter would be criminals by their mere presence in both the actual and cyber community.
As an organization dedicated to the support and safety of children, NCMEC recognizes that COVID 19 creates certain heightened dangers for that demographic who are now quarantining with familial abusers, spending additional time online where the risk of exploitation increases, and the perfect combination of stress, uncertainty, and isolation that could lead to first time abuse. The need for law enforcement engagement, therefore, is more important than ever. Thanks to your tireless efforts over the last two months, you successfully reunited 29 children with their loved ones after AMBER Alerts and continued rescuing children from exploitation following millions of CyberTipline reports.
The Board recognizes the particularly immense contributions of law enforcement to NCMEC’s mission to help find missing children, reduce child sexual exploitation and prevent child victimization; and
Expresses deep appreciation for the selfless dedication of law enforcement as they continue to rescue children from abuse and exploitation during these extremely challenging circumstances created by COVID-19; and
Honors NCMEC’s partnerships with law enforcement to fulfill our mission of child protection and extends our deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of those members of law enforcement who have lost their lives to COVID-19 while they continued to serve and protect the public; and
Thank you for all you do. At NCMEC, we back the blue.
