"People Magazine Investigates" Highlights the Oklahoma Girl Scout Murders

07-10-2023

Just over 46 years after three young girls were brutally murdered at Camp Scott in Mayes County, Oklahoma, Investigation Discovery and People Magazine will highlight their story on the premiere episode of "People Magazine Investigates" as it returns for its seventh season tonight.

The show, which Investigation Discovery describes as the uncovering of “heart-wrenching true stories behind crimes that transcended headlines and became part of popular culture,” often includes first-hand interviews. It also reveals shocking twists, new evidence, and unexpected resolutions to well-known crime stories across the country.

The new season will include a “captivating” lineup of true crime mysteries, including tonight’s two-hour premiere on the 1977 murders of three Oklahoma Girl Scouts: Lori Lee Farmer, Doris Denise Milner, and Michele Heather Guse.

According to a press release, the “chilling” premiere will take viewers through “the twists and turns of this case, from how local authorities zeroed in on a suspect, the all-encompassing manhunt to track him down, and the subsequent trial that led to heartbreak for the victims’ families and many unanswered questions.”

The episode will also feature an exclusive new interview with Lori Lee Farmer’s parents and siblings, as well as testimony from jurors on the trial and experts close to the case.

In 2022, NCMEC honored the parents of Lori Lee Farmer, Sheri and Bo, at our annual Hope Gala. The episode will include footage from the gala. Read more about their award on our blog titled “NCMEC Celebrates Hope and People Behind It.”

Season seven of the show will also include episodes featuring other NCMEC cases, including the disappearance of Mark Himebaugh on July 24 and the disappearance of Karlie Guse on August 7.
